A Busy Month on the Go
February has started off at lightening speed. Mom and I enjoyed pho soup together earlier this week following an appt. Last week, some of her meds were changed in order to encourage more socialization and more energy. I am thankful for a doctor willing to work with us. While I realize her mind has a long way to go, God is able!!! And it seems He has put into place various medical professionals to help guide any healing He has planned for my mom. Mom and I enjoy going out to lunch on the days she has an appt.
The kids and I took our dog, Hattie to visit Dad this week! I explained that this is our dog and he seemed to recognize the difference between Hattie and Tipper. With the wonderful Spring weather, we spent time walking around the garden and enjoying the sunshine. Hattie seemed to enjoy the change of scenery and new people to sniff!
Joey helped me refill the bird feeder outside Dad's window.
My helpers had extra seed to fill other feeders too.
Valentine Visit
Mom and I made a visit to see Dad for Valentine's Day. It seems to be easier on both of them for her to visit at his place. They walked around the garden and we sat in the chairs to take in some fresh air. The temp was in the 70's, which was a nice change. Dad shared his valentine necklace with Mom.
Dad opened some Valentine goodies from Debbie.
We visited in Dad's room for a bit.
While conversation was sparse, they did get to see each other and had the chance to talk. Mom remains very quiet and not so interactive. It's good for her to get out of her apartment though, so it seems like a benefit to them both. Dad's phone is working again, thankfully. So, he's ready for some phone calls and letters. He seems comfortable with his apartment and says he straightens up daily. The staff report that he's been in the common area more lately and has found a few other residents to talk with. He seems to be doing well and I'm grateful for that!
Tipper
Tipper just went to the doctor this morning and got a clean bill of health "for a dog her age"! She says age is just a number. Tipper continues to do really well at our house. I still take her to visit dad on occasion. He interacts with her well and seems to remember her. She feels the same and looks forward to car rides. I'm not sure that Tipper understands that the other dogs are playing fetch in the backyard, but she comes over to me for some attention. Maybe it's that she realizes they are running away from me and she can come over for some love.
Tipper never wants to stay out longer than necessary!
Life in Texas is rockin' along well. We're finding out new normal, slowly but surely. The kids and I visit Mom and Dad weekly. We drop of treats when we're unable to stay long. The kids are completely comfortable with both places and have their favorite staff members. We are grateful for communities that care for my parents well and stay in touch with us between visits. It's not uncommon to get a text from Dad's place with a question about family or friends. Mom's place will let me know how she's doing. Although the journey to this point has been full of twists and turns, we're making the most of the situation! Both parents welcome pictures and cards/notes. I'm happy to deliver to them or just message me for their addresses. I see God all over these hard days and in the midst of the laughter too!
"Because of the Lord’s great love we are
not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness."
Lamentations 3:22-23
