A New Beginning: 2020

Hello, 2020!

December was a bit more challenging for my parents in 2019, but it seems that 2020 is off to a strong start!

Mom spent some time in the hospital over Christmas due to an infection that required IV antibiotics.  Strangely, she was chatting up a storm when I visited.  Staff wasn't sure she could even speak, but she began to brighten up a bit.  She called me "Lucy" when I visited, which I'll gladly take as a compliment.  Lucy is Mom's sister and a wonderful sister at that!  After a few days, Mom was back in her community and feeling much better.

Dad has been stable as the new year starts.  He had a dermatology appointment recently and they found that he has a concerning spot on his back. In a few weeks, he'll have a minor procedure in the doctor's office to remove it. I'll take him and stay with him for the procedure.  Anytime he has an appointment, we try to add something a little fun.  Most recently, we made a stop for lunch.  Fried fish and squash are two of his favorites!  It seems like 2-3 hours away from a familiar environment is his limit though.  Any longer and he becomes confused, although still aware of who I am.  So, we keep our trips short and sweet.  He's always very willing and ready to take any trip!

The kids and I made a stop at Mom's the other day.  She was happy to see us, it seems.  I was pleased to see her door propped open to the common area, which is not her preference most days.  After a meeting with her care team recently  the staff will now be offering more assistance.  Mom is still able to physically do so much, but a little more help with insure she's well cared for in her daily activities.  She had hung her red lantern up in her room in anticipation of Chinese New Year!  Still quiet, she seems to be content and comfortable when we visit!

Looking forward to more memories in 2020...
